chemnitz | 2011

I took these photographs in march and may 2011, the last time that I visited my friends in chemnitz, before they moved away. they are meant as a remembrance of over five years of frequent weekend trips there during my twenties, in which, as in any other place at that age, you're mostly just waiting for something to happen.

the black-and-white were taken with an orwo np20, the color with a kodak elite chrome 200 (ed-3). all were scanned directly from film.

detailed view in black and white of the congress hotel facade in chemnitz, an example of the so-called ‚ddr-modern' architecture.
a tall, simple building with green letters spelling ‚hotel' at the top. a narrow fire escape runs down the pale concrete wall from the hotel sign to the ground.
upward view of a bare, windowless wall against a blue sky, with a red empty advertising frame and the shadow of a streetlight.
view from inside through a bright curtain, revealing the faint outlines of a building outside the window.
