born in berlin in 1984, living in kiel now.

the interest in photography started instantly when I was handed a camera as a child. with the simplest compact camera I ran around and captured everything - as long as someone had a film for me. later in school I got the chance to learn how to use a single-lens reflex camera and how to develop paper prints. although digital cameras were about to become a thing, I wanted to stick with analog techniques and studied the restoration and conservation of photographs and film at the htw in berlin.

while I followed another path after that education, I am still involved in all kinds of topics related to photography.

I mostly shoot 135 film of all kinds (b/w, reversal film, expired…), sometimes 120 with my holga camera, and regularly try out new developers for paper and film. my equipment consists of a praktica mtl5 and a minolta dynax 500 si.

occasionally I do experiments with historic photographic techniques such as cyanotypes.

I also use social media to share what I’m currently working on or just things I find visually interesting. you can find and contact me at gram.social/nicole - or reach out via email at nicole@nicolerakow.com.
